Brookgreen Gardens

Brookgreen Gardens  is the pre-eminent sculpture and botannical garden on the East Coast. It was established in 1931 by Archer and Anna Hyatt Huntington near Pawley's Island, South Carolina, and houses the most significant outdoor collection in the world of figurative sculpture by American artists. In addition to its lovely, formal botannical gardens and beautifully landscaped acres interspersed by the many examples of the sculptors' art, Brookgreen Gardens offers opportunity to see native animals in their natural habitat as well as many of the domestic animals used in years past to serve the needs of this former rice plantation. The photos in this gallery capture but a few of the many beautiful and often powerful--or even whimsical-- works of fine art. The Gardens were first opened to the public in 1932.
